Description:

The Panola Watchman (Carthage, Texas) – an award-winning daily newspaper and news website – is seeking a passionate multimedia journalist to join our team.

In our digital-first newsroom, coverage is strategic and centered around what matters most to readers, who are our top priority. One day you might interview a local filmmaker, but the next you could request records to dig into what’s really going on behind closed doors of a public office.

We are sure to cover all the things readers need to know – who’s running for office, what’s going on with city development, and when roads might be repaired – but we also utilize analytics to gauge what our audience is engaging with the most. We believe in creating work we can be proud of that serves our entire community well. We strive to cover people, topics and issues that would otherwise go uncovered. Our team shines a light on the good things happening in Carthage and Panola County while looking through a microscope on critical issues that might otherwise fly under the radar.

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling, relationship building and making a difference through community news. Our next journalist should be an excellent interviewer, writer and researcher in addition to possessing some basic photography skills. Applicants should have two-plus years of journalism experience, but recent college graduates with strong clips will be considered.

About our company

The Panola Watchman is part of Carpenter Media Group, a family-owned company committed to the mission of community journalism. We focus on providing valuable information and fostering strong connections within the communities we serve. Compensation and benefits

We offer a competitive salary, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus paid time off.
