Description:
Social Media & Newsletter Fellow
The Parlor Magazine is seeking a Social Media & Newsletter Fellow to help grow and deepen our digital presence across platforms. This is a strategic communications role — not just scheduling — for someone who understands how independent feminist media moves online.
About The Parlor The Parlor is an independent intersectional feminist publication covering identity, power, land, and community. Our main channels are Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Bluesky, and LinkedIn. Our newsletter runs on MailerLite. We use Buffer for cross-platform scheduling.
What is the Social Media & Newsletter Fellowship? This is a hands-on communications role for someone who can write, think strategically about audience growth, and do the unglamorous work of organic community building. You will work directly with the founding editor to manage our social presence, write and send our newsletter, and build reach through genuine engagement rather than algorithm-chasing.
Fellows will:
- Write and schedule social media content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Bluesky, and LinkedIn using Buffer
- Write and send the MailerLite newsletter
- Conduct organic community engagement on Facebook and Reddit to build reach and deepen audience relationships
- Research relevant communities, conversations, and opportunities for The Parlor's content to reach new readers
- Contribute to developing The Parlor's social voice and content strategy
- Participate in monthly newsroom sessions and community calls
What we're looking for:
- Strong copywriting ability — you need to be able to write in The Parlor's voice
- Familiarity with Buffer, MailerLite, or equivalent tools
- Understanding of organic growth and community engagement strategies
- Someone who reads independent and feminist media and understands how it circulates
- Ability to work independently and manage a consistent publishing cadence
- Recently graduated or equivalent experience strongly preferred
- Alignment with intersectional feminist, anticolonial values
Time commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week
A note on compensation: This is an unpaid fellowship. We are transparent about this because our politics demand it.
What fellows receive in return:
- One-on-one mentorship from the founding team
- Participation in community calls and special learning opportunities
- Print bylines and communications credits in an internationally distributed publication
- Letters of recommendation
- Strategic communications experience across a real, growing independent media brand
- First consideration for paid opportunities as The Parlor grows
We are accepting a maximum of 2 fellows for this role. This is an ongoing open call with no deadline.
