Description:
Transcript Publishing is an independent, family-owned multimedia publishing company located in central North Dakota that produces two award-winning weekly newspapers and a variety of specialty publications.
We are looking for a full-time reporter to join our team and become a vital part of our small community. You will cover local news, feature stories, and special assignments across Eddy and Foster counties in rural North Dakota.
This role is ideal for a curious, adaptable writer who enjoys contributing work for publication both in print and online while building relationships in a tight-knit community.
If you:
are comfortable introducing yourself and asking questions,
understand that accuracy and fairness matter,
believe small communities deserve serious journalism, and
recognize the importance of community engagement,
then this is the place for you!
This position involves working closely with the editor to research, report and write accurate news, feature, sports and local government stories for our two newspapers, the New Rockford Transcript and Foster County Independent, as well as capture and record photos and videos to accompany stories and digital content for our community news publications.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Comfortable using digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and basic office technology
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel as needed to cover stories in Eddy and Foster counties.
Qualified candidates include anyone with a high school diploma that has written articles part-time or on a freelance basis, as well as a recent college graduate with a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
If writing and storytelling is your passion, explore this opportunity to do what you love while working with an award-winning team.
If you enjoy the outdoors and want plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in small town life, this is the career for you! We are 30 minutes from Devils Lake, the largest natural body of water in North Dakota, and within the Central Flyway with abundant waterfowl and other migratory birds right in our backyard. Experience all four seasons, sometimes all in the same day!
To apply, submit your cover letter, resume and three published writing samples to amyw@transcriptpublishing.com.
