Description:

Interviewer Opportunity — Life Story Magic

At Life Story Magic, we capture your loved ones' stories and turn them into treasured history. We do video interviews with parents, grandparents (aunts, uncles, friends — really anyone who matters) — delivering professional recordings, transcripts, and other add-ons.

We're growing and adding to our team of contract interviewers. These are remote, contract positions open to candidates anywhere in the world.

What the work involves

  • Conducting 60-120 minute video interviews with customers about their life stories
  • Light preparation beforehand to familiarize yourself with the customer
  • Brief wrap-up after each interview and administrative tasks
  • Working within an established tech platform and process

What this isn't

While journalists and writers often excel in this work, it's important to note that this is "writer-adjacent," as opposed to writing. It also doesn't involve pitching, editing, or producing a finished article.

The product is the conversation itself, captured on video and in print (or at least, on screen).

People who are naturally curious, genuinely comfortable on camera, and good at making strangers feel at ease tend to do well. People who prefer to work behind the scenes typically don't.

Compensation

These are remote contract positions that can be based anywhere in the world. Interviewers start at $40/hour, and our compensation structure goes up to $60/hour based on experience with us and customer feedback. We start every new interviewer with a paid trial interview — so there's no commitment on either side until we both know it's a good fit.

Who this might be a natural fit for

  • Freelance nonfiction writers, producers, and interviewers looking for reliable supplemental income between assignments — no pitching, no revisions, no chasing invoices
  • People with journalism, oral history, or podcast interview backgrounds
  • Anyone who has spent years getting strangers to open up and always wondered if that skill was worth something
