Description:
Cascadia Media Company is seeking a full-time Director of Marketing & Audience Development to join its leadership team in Bellingham, Washington in a new role. We are looking for a creative, seasoned marketing professional with experience in supporting news and information – someone who shares our belief in the power of professional journalism and the power of community.
About Cascadia Media Company
Cascadia Media Company is a for-profit, locally owned company. We produce award-winning journalism serving Whatcom and Skagit Counties. We just launched a regional magazine highlighting stories in Cascadia, an area from Vancouver, B.C. to Seattle, WA and from the San Juan Islands to the North Cascades.
The company’s newspaper, Cascadia Daily News, debuted in January 2022 and delivers news and information daily at cascadiadaily.com and through a suite of daily newsletters. A weekly print edition is published each Friday and is available to subscribers by mail and at retail locations.
Since its launch, Cascadia Daily News has received numerous awards for journalistic excellence and has grown to include 17 reporters, editors and visual journalists in our newsroom and 7 marketing, advertising and customer services staff in our business office.
Adding a Director of Marketing & Audience Development to our leadership team will ensure our continued growth and positive connection with the communities we serve.
The Opportunity
Through award-winning public service journalism and active community engagement, we have become an essential community institution, already widely embraced by an educated, engaged, news-hungry audience.
We are now at an inflection point. To continue effectively serving our community, we have expanded our coverage to include the magazine, premium newsletters, podcasts, and a sports documentary.
In May, we launched a quarterly magazine, Cascadia Daily Life, that invites readers to experience and celebrate the beauty, culture, and community that is daily life in our corner of the Pacific NW. Cascadia Daily Life will have its own subscription and distribution plan.
The Director of Marketing & Audience Development will have the opportunity to collaborate with both newsroom and business leadership to help shape new products, develop a multi-product and company brand strategy, promote news products across all platforms, lead community engagement efforts through events and other in-person outreach, and promote company growth by expanding the reach of our products beyond Bellingham and throughout the Cascadia region.
Core responsibilities
The new director will serve as a public-facing leader and brand ambassador at events and in the business community and will partner with newsroom and business office leaders to strengthen the company’s reputation as the leading publisher of trusted news and information in this part of the Pacific NW.
This position will manage marketing strategy companywide and will develop innovative marketing approaches for company newsletters, social media channels, events, personal outreach and other methods, with the goal of increasing the subscriber base and raising funds to support company editorial efforts.
Because our company’s product is its journalism, this position and their team will collaborate closely with both newsroom and business leadership toward a goal of audience growth and community engagement while ensuring our product marketing efforts align with the company’s editorial standards and mission.
This position will ensure visual consistency and messaging of company publications, digital products and social channels.
This position will develop and manage numerous public events to engage and inform the public and to showcase the company’s editorial products and personnel.
This position will include analysis of website and newsletter engagement, social media analytics, and other internal and external data to understand audience behavior and inform strategic decisions.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. This position is salary-based, and benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid time off and a 401k savings plan. Annual base salary depending on experience will range between $90,000 to $110,000.
