Description:
About The Lever:
The Lever is a subscriber-supported investigative news outlet dedicated to following the money and holding the powerful accountable. Founded in 2020 by journalist David Sirota and a team of reporters, The Lever quickly attracted national attention thanks to its in-depth investigations and uncompromising analyses of local and national politics, business corruption, Big Tech, climate change, health care, and more. Now, we want to expand our impact even further.
The Position:
The Lever is looking for a Social Media & Video Producer to help our journalism reach new audiences across social platforms. We’re looking for someone who is genuinely plugged into social media — someone who understands emerging trends, platform best practices, and what makes audiences engage, while also caring about serious journalism and helping important stories reach more people.
This role will work closely with The Lever’s social lead to support daily publishing, video distribution, social posting, and cross-platform promotion. The focus will be on YouTube, Reddit, X, Bluesky, and TikTok, with occasional support for Instagram as needed.
What You’ll Do:
Turn daily stories, newsletters, podcasts, and interviews into clear, compelling social posts.
Create and post The Lever’s new and archival content at a cadence optimized to create social media ubiquity and saturation every day.
Pull strong quotes, key findings, and sharp lines from The Lever’s reporting.
Adapt posts for different platforms, especially X, Bluesky, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
On Reddit, help identify relevant subreddits, understand posting rules, and publish stories in the right communities.
Edit and clean up video captions for publication.
Format videos for each platform, including aspect ratios, layouts, titles, descriptions, thumbnails, tags, and calls to action.
Upload, schedule, and publish videos across The Lever’s channels.
Support rollouts for major stories, podcasts, interviews, livestreams, and investigations.
Help us experiment with more timely, funny, conversational, and platform-native posts.
What We’re Looking For:
Strong social media instincts and a good sense of what makes people click, watch, comment, or share.
Excellent writing skills, especially for hooks, captions, headlines, and short social copy.
Basic video editing, captioning, and formatting skills.
Comfort posting and scheduling across YouTube, Reddit, X, Bluesky, TikTok, and Instagram.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Good organization and the ability to manage a busy publishing schedule.
Interest in politics, investigative journalism, corporate power, money in politics, labor, climate, democracy, corruption, or media criticism.
Ability to review performance analytics and draw insights.
Comfort in operating independently while also working in harmony with a small team of hardworking remote journalists.
Commitment to The Lever’s subscriber-funded model and approach to accountability journalism.
The passion, imagination, and ambition needed to help build a transformative news organization.
Nice To Have:
Experience working in journalism, nonprofit media, politics, advocacy, or creator-driven media.
Experience posting on Reddit and navigating subreddit rules.
Familiarity with YouTube publishing and short-form video optimization.
Basic design, thumbnail, or motion graphics experience.
Ability to produce social-first explainer videos, including TikTok-style videos where they appear on camera and explain a story clearly and engagingly.
Why This Role Matters:
The Lever’s reporting exposes power, follows the money, and helps readers understand how politics and corruption really work. This role will help ensure work travels further — by keeping our social channels consistent, timely, engaging, and built for the platforms where people actually spend their time.
This is a full-time, salaried, and remote position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
How To Apply:
Send a cover letter, resume, references, and three examples of your work to jobs@levernews.com
