About The Lever

The Lever is a reader-supported investigative news outlet dedicated to following the money and holding the powerful accountable. Founded in 2020 by journalist David Sirota and a team of reporters, The Lever has quickly attracted a robust following thanks to its in-depth investigations and uncompromising analyses of local and national politics, business corruption, Big Tech, climate change, health care, and more. With its rapidly growing subscriber base, The Lever is building a news organization devoted to holding power accountable.

The Position

The Lever is looking for a part-time newsletter fellow with the drive to become a vital member of our editorial and email team. The fellow will work closely with our newsletter lead to help write our curated daily email, Lever Daily, and be responsible for producing roughly 800-1,000 words a week of newsletter copy.

Depending on interest and availability, the fellow may also contribute to our election midterms pop-up newsletter for additional pay.

The fellow will receive hands-on support from our newsletter and editorial teams, is welcome to attend our daily editorial meetings, and will be encouraged to pitch and write additional stories for The Lever, for which they will be paid our standard freelance rate of $600/story and up. The fellowship is designed to help cultivate the next generation of independent investigative journalists, with opportunities for internal growth.

  • Interest in tracking and responding to an ever-shifting news cycle.

  • The passion, imagination, and ambition needed to help build a transformative news organization.
