Description:
POSITION: Senior Editor, CGSP Intelligence
LOCATION: Remote (Asia-based preferred)
STATUS: Full-time
START DATE: Immediate
OVERVIEW:
The China-Global South Project (CGSP) is an award-winning research and media initiative dedicated to exploring every facet of China’s engagement across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and the broader Global South. CGSP produces editorial content distributed across multiple platforms to a global audience, including policymakers, diplomats, journalists, scholars, investors, analysts, and corporate decision-makers.
CGSP’s work combines journalism, analysis, multimedia storytelling, and original research to examine the political, economic, strategic, and environmental implications of China’s expanding global footprint. The organization maintains a distributed international team of editors, researchers, producers, and contributors based across multiple regions.
ROLE:
CGSP is seeking an experienced Senior Editor to oversee CGSP Intelligence, a new platform specifically intended for large institutions, universities, international NGOs, governments, and corporate users.
This is a senior-level editorial role suited to someone who is equally comfortable producing and editing high-level analytical writing, managing digital publishing workflows, identifying emerging geopolitical trends, and helping shape the future direction of CGSP’s editorial and research agenda.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working in journalism, policy publishing, or think tank communications, with a strong understanding of China’s role in global affairs and the ability to translate complex developments into accessible, rigorous, and engaging content for professional audiences.
The position requires someone who can move fluidly between editing, commissioning, publishing, content strategy, and project development. Candidates should have strong editorial judgment, exceptional organizational skills, and familiarity with digital publishing systems, multimedia storytelling, and data-driven content formats.
We are looking for someone who understands the evolving information needs of policymakers, analysts, diplomats, scholars, and corporate audiences following China’s engagement across the Global South. This position requires demonstrated experience managing complex editorial workflows in a fast-paced professional environment.
The Senior Editor will work closely with CGSP’s editorial leadership, researchers, contributors, and multimedia producers to develop high-quality analysis, explainers, special reports, and innovative digital products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a highly dynamic role that combines editing, digital publishing, content strategy, commissioning, and editorial development. Responsibilities include:
- Editing and publishing analytical articles, commentary submissions, explainers, interviews, and research-driven content for the CGSP Intelligence platform.
- Managing day-to-day website publishing workflows, including formatting, scheduling, quality control, SEO optimization, and multimedia integration.
- Working closely with contributors, fellows, researchers, and external analysts to ensure content is aligned with CGSP’s research and editorial priorities.
- Identifying emerging geopolitical, economic, and strategic developments in China and the Global South and shaping editorial priorities accordingly.
- Developing ideas for new editorial products, including special reports, data visualizations, interactive explainers, multimedia packages, and long-form analysis.
- Collaborating with CGSP’s research and editorial teams on larger cross-platform projects involving text, video, audio, graphics, and data storytelling.
- Managing editorial calendars and coordinating publication timelines across multiple projects and contributors.
- Assisting with newsletter production, homepage management, and audience engagement strategies.
- Ensuring editorial consistency, factual accuracy, and adherence to CGSP’s standards across all published content.
- Exploring and implementing new digital publishing tools, workflows, and storytelling formats that enhance audience engagement and analytical depth.
- Performing other related editorial duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of international affairs, geopolitics, foreign policy, and China’s engagement across the Global South.
- Excellent editing skills with the ability to shape analytical and research-heavy writing for professional audiences.
- Proven experience working in digital publishing, journalism, think tanks, policy institutes, or research organizations.
- Familiarity with content management systems, digital publishing platforms, newsletters, and editorial workflow tools.
- Experience working with or commissioning multimedia and data-driven content, including charts, maps, infographics, and data visualizations.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to identify emerging trends and editorial opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high editorial standards under deadline pressure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in remote, international working environments.
- Experience with SEO, audience analytics, and digital audience development strategies is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with China-related policy, economic, or geopolitical issues is strongly preferred.
- Chinese language skills are preferred but not required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of five to six years of professional editorial, journalism, publishing, or think tank experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in journalism, international relations, political science, China studies, economics, or related fields is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience editing analytical or policy-oriented content for professional audiences.
- Strong familiarity with digital publishing systems and editorial content management workflows.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment and collaborate across multiple time zones.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
- Availability to work a standard 40-hour week, with occasional flexibility required around major global developments and publishing deadlines.
