Description:

Editorial Graphic Designer & Visual Storyteller

Who We Are

Lincoln Square is a creative, mission-driven media organization producing pro-democracy articles, columns, podcasts, short-form video series, and digital shows that reach millions across platforms. Our work combines compelling storytelling, smart editorial vision, and fast-paced production to inform, inspire, and engage audiences. We are a rapidly growing media organization dedicated to cutting through misinformation, holding power accountable, and empowering Americans with the facts needed to take civic action.

The Role

We are looking for a high-energy, mission-driven Graphic Designer to serve as the visual architect for our news commentary. You will be responsible for creating custom graphics that don’t just "accompany" our news articles, podcasts, and streaming shows—they enhance them. We need someone who can take a complex legislative bill, a column by a political analysis, or a high-stakes podcast interview and distill it into a compelling visual preview that catches the attention and inspires our audience to read

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Illustration: Design custom featured images, infographics, and data visualizations for news stories, feature articles, and opinion pieces that align with the tone of the written content.

  • Multimedia Promotion: Create eye-catching promotional graphics for our podcasts and streaming shows, social media teasers, show branding, and YouTube Thumbnail design

  • Narrative Support: Collaborate with journalists and editors to identify the "visual hook" of a story, ensuring the graphics provide context, clarity, and emotional resonance.

  • Brand Consistency: Maintain a cohesive visual identity across all platforms while pushing the boundaries of creative storytelling.

  • Rapid Response: Move quickly to produce graphics without sacrificing quality or accuracy.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A News Junkie with an Artist’s Eye: You follow the news and understand the nuances of current events, which allows you to design with intent and accuracy.

  • Versatile Stylist: You can move between gritty, collage-style "resistance" aesthetics for opinion pieces and clean, professional branding for news and podcasts.

  • Ability to balance brand integrity with high-performance marketing. Designing promotional materials that are not only aesthetically beautiful but are strategically engineered to drive traffic, subscriptions, and 'must-watch' urgency.

  • Technical Pro: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Experience with motion graphics (After Effects) or Canva (for rapid-response templates) is a massive plus.

  • Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy brainstorming with writers and producers to bring a story to life.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in editorial design, digital media, or a related field.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates an ability to complement written narratives with strong visual concepts.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.

  • Deep alignment with the mission of pro-democracy, independent media.

What We Offer

  • Flexibility: This is a fully remote position.

  • Benefits: Full-time roles include employer-sponsored health plans and a generous time-off program.

  • Growth: A collaborative environment where ideas are valued and there is room to specialize based on your individual strengths.
