- Edit local news, feature and sports stories for accuracy, clarity, fairness and Associated Press style
- Write sharp, engaging headlines, decks and captions optimized for digital audiences and subscriber value
- Ensure stories meet newsroom standards for tone, readability and factual accuracy
- Coordinate with reporters on breaking news and evening coverage, exercising strong news judgment to prioritize and advance stories in real time
- Publish and package content in the Blox CMS with attention to SEO, digital presentation and audience engagement
- Optimize stories for web, mobile, newsletters and social platforms
- Help ensure breaking news and developing coverage across the Quad-Cities and central Illinois markets is published quickly, accurately and updated as information evolves
- Use analytics and audience insights to strengthen story presentation and reader reach
- Plan, proof and finalize print pages under deadline pressure, including assisting with sports page production
- Coordinate with the Lee Design Center to ensure smooth production workflows and high presentation standards
- Maintain consistent quality and workflow standards across the Quad-City Times and partner newsrooms
- Work closely with editors, reporters, designers and other producers across multiple markets to move stories quickly and cleanly to publication
- Support a collaborative, reader-first newsroom culture focused on urgency, responsiveness and strong local journalism
- Strong editing and copywriting skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Thorough knowledge of Associated Press style and newsroom standards
- Ability to balance speed, accuracy and editorial judgment in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with CMS tools, digital publishing workflows and SEO best practices
- Understanding of digital audience behavior and engagement strategies
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Passion for local journalism that informs, connects and serves regional communities
