Description:
FāVS News, the only nonprofit digital newsroom in America devoted exclusively to local religion news, is seeking freelance reporters across Washington state — including western Washington and rural communities — to cover the rich and diverse religious life of their regions.
FāVS stories are distributed through a growing regional news wire to more than 15 media partners across Washington state and beyond, meaning your reporting reaches audiences well beyond a single outlet.
This is an opportunity to do meaningful, community-centered journalism on a beat that is often overlooked but deeply relevant to how people live, vote, grieve, organize and find belonging.
What you'll do
Report and write stories on religion, faith communities and spirituality for a statewide audience. Stories may include profiles, breaking news, investigations, community features and event coverage.
What we're looking for
- Journalists with reporting experience, including recent graduates
- Writers based in western Washington or rural parts of the state who can cover their communities
- People who are curious about religion and can approach the beat with fairness, accuracy and nuance
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Reporters must live in Washington state
Compensation
Pay is per story. Rates are discussed upon application.
