The Opportunity: 

We are seeking a Host/Producer to join our KMHD Jazz Radio team. This new role will grow our on-air talent and expand of graphic design capacities to bring awareness to our content. The ideal candidate for this role should be comfortable working across a range of design and content tools, including Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and video editing software (any major platform is acceptable). 

This person will be responsible for creating visually compelling graphics for multiple channels, including on-air visuals, website assets, and social media content. The role requires someone who can balance creativity with consistency while ensuring all visual elements align with brand standards and reach target audiences.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of KMHD management, KMHD’s Host/Producers are responsible for the on-air product the station produces. These audience-facing positions are charged with programming music, announcing, and organizing content for air. In addition to this, KMHD Host/Producers represent KMHD at community events, produce digital content and works on radio station operations.


The Host/Producer is responsible for working with various departments at OPB to ensure that air continuity is maintained on KMHD. This position will work within KMHD and across OPB departments such as sales/underwriting, technology, development, digital, visuals, and more to ensure the quality of our workflow to uplifts KMHD’s vital service to its audience. The employee works with KMHD management and other departments at OPB to accomplish these goals.

This role will produce an independent program on KMHD. 30% of the role will also be working with web and social team to produce content regarding on air broadcast. Attend membership event and work with various departments. Create graphics for content to bring awareness to KMHD and show. Flexible schedule is required to accommodate on air schedule.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

50% On-air work including programming, organizing, ingesting, performing, hosting and producing shows. General maintenance of the automation system. Work on on-air fundraising.

20% Digital content creation including production of original digital stories, interviews, segments for air, etc.

30% Social media coordinator maintains all platforms and discovering new platforms as they occur. Homepage editor, updating KMHD.org when needed. Also, will serve as in-house graphic designer for KMHD materials and projects

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Work environment: These positions work in KHMD’s studios and offices at OPB. KMHD is licensed to Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham and operated by Oregon Public Broadcasting. Work is done primarily in an office or studio using broadcast and production equipment. Work may be required during inclement weather. 
  • Schedule: Hours will sometimes vary, and a studio schedule for the KMHD Host/Producers is maintained. KMHD Host/Producers may be asked to cover shifts in case of emergencies, vacation, or sickness of other team members. Although shifts are varied, all KMHD Host/Producers should expect to host live shows throughout the week and potentially on weekends.
  • Physical demands: Lifting and transporting music and musical technology up to 20 lbs may be required.
  • Travel: Travel within Oregon and Southwest Washington is common.
  • Driving: Valid Oregon or Washington drivers license is required.  


Minimum Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes): 

  • Broadcast experience
  • Knowledge of jazz (and it’s related genres) history
  • Able to make appropriate decisions under stress
  • Experience working with radio and audio production software
  • Able to work well alone and as part of a team
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to service and an aptitude for public broadcasting


Preferred Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes): 

  • Strong reading and writing skills
  • Knowledge of the digital media landscape and its applications
  • Ability to work in a methodical/organized manner


Additional Information: 

  • This position reports to the Interim General Manager, KMHD. 
  •  This role is represented by SAG-AFTRA and payrates are bargained with the union. This salaried, exempt role would start at $75,000 annually and increase on 7/1/2026 to $78,750 annually.
