Description:

The Jacksonville Daily Record seeks an assistant editor to help develop, produce and refine our online and print coverage of the robust business community in Northeast Florida.

We are looking for an experienced professional to provide front-line editing, write stories on an as-needed basis, get our content online and collaborate with the editor to continue expanding the audience of our weekly print publication, website and social media platforms.

Experience at a business-to-business publication or in business news is preferred but not required.

What is required is an authoritative grasp of AP Style, a keen eye for inaccurate information or other mistakes in stories, an ability to detect missing facts or context and a collegial attitude in working with reporters and editing colleagues to ensure our content is the most accurate and thorough in the market.

Other requirements include dexterity in working across print and digital platforms, prioritizing tasks and accomplishing them effectively.

Our assistant editor will give first reads to most stories, editing for content and copy editing. They will work closely with reporters in formulating stories, honing them and submitting them on time.

Other duties include posting some online stories, collaborating with our designer to post others and proofreading our print publication pages. The role mostly involves desk work, with occasional reporting assignments in the field.

The Daily Record, one of the oldest continually operating weekly newspapers in Florida, is family-owned and is growing in every sense. We’ve seen increases in our audience, ad revenue and newsroom staffing.

Our news department boasts a mix of some of our market’s most experienced journalists and talented early-career professionals.

The Daily Record offers competitive compensation and benefits.
