Description:
Managing Editor, Omaha World-Herald
The Omaha World-Herald is seeking an ambitious, rigorous, and entrepreneurial leader to shape the newsroom’s next phase of growth as its Managing Editor.
This person will directly oversee the organization’s day-to-day news coverage while playing a key role in charting newsroom strategy.
The ideal candidate will combine uncompromising journalistic integrity with an insatiable appetite for innovation in a thriving, tradition-rich news environment.
The largest newspaper in Nebraska, The World-Herald has served readers since 1885 and won three Pulitzer Prizes. The ideal candidate will revere the institution’s history but work urgently to shape the future of the organization in a rapidly changing, multiplatform world.
The Omaha metro area is home to more than 1 million people, multiple Fortune 500 companies, a nationally renowned medical institution, and a competitive, nationally scrutinized political environment. The World-Herald’s news coverage aims to capture the vibrancy and complexity of the region on multiple platforms and in multiple formats.
What you’ll do:
·
Guide a team of news
reporters covering Omaha and the state of Nebraska
·
Help shape The
World-Herald’s multiplatform product lineup, including newsletters, podcasts,
visual journalism, and whatever comes next
·
Embrace a “lead from
the field” model in which you’re finding ways to contribute to coverage as a
reporter, writer, and content creator
· Build and maintain relationships with key community and company stakeholders
What we’re looking for:
·
A proven track record
of leading high-impact news coverage in a fast-paced, competitive environment
·
An appreciation for
the news, politics, business, and cultural landscapes in Nebraska
·
A relentless desire
to innovate and build new things
· An excellent communicator and collaborator comfortable working with reporters, editors, and other stakeholders
Attach your resume, three work samples, and a 500-to-750-word memo describing your vision for the role, addressed to Executive Editor Ben Doody to your application.
