Description:

Editorial Assistant (Remote, Full-Time)

About Lincoln Square Media

Lincoln Square is a creative, mission-driven media organization producing pro-democracy articles, columns, podcasts, short-form video series, and digital shows that reach millions across platforms. Our work combines compelling storytelling, smart editorial vision, and fast-paced production to inform, inspire, and engage audiences. We are a rapidly growing media organization dedicated to cutting through misinformation, holding power accountable, and empowering Americans with the facts needed to take civic action.

The Role

As Editorial Assistant, you will work directly with our Executive Editor to support the full range of Lincoln Square's editorial output — from daily news coverage and show write-ups to newsletters, writer development, and cross-team coordination. This is a writing and research role for someone with a strong political journalism background who is ready to step into meaningful editorial responsibility in an independent media environment.

You will be a key part of a lean, fast-moving team that produces content across Substack, YouTube, podcasts, and social media — with real opportunities to grow your role as the organization expands.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial & Writing

  • Assist the Executive Editor in selecting, editing, and fact-checking articles, show write-ups, and political commentary

  • Write daily and weekly show write-ups and newsletters for our Substack audience

  • Must produce original writing without using AI

  • Fill in on editorial duties when the Executive Editor is unavailable

  • Research topics, guests, and background materials for shows and editorial planning

Writer Development

  • Recruit and cultivate new writers aligned with Lincoln Square's mission and voice

  • Provide editorial support and feedback to contributors

Platform & Publishing

  • Learn and help manage our Substack platform, including scheduling, publishing, and site organization

  • Coordinate with marketing and social media staff on article promotion and distribution after publication

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Coordinate with the production team on daily show needs and editorial priorities

  • Work with our Director of Growth & Marketing to support fundraising, promotional, and advertising copy integrated into published content

Who You Are

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in journalism or a related field

  • 3–5 years of experience in journalism, with hands-on experience covering hard news and politics

  • A strong writer and editor with a sharp political news instinct

  • Committed to pro-democracy values and mission-driven journalism

  • Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment

  • A collaborative team player who communicates clearly across departments

  • Self-directed and comfortable in a remote, independent media setting

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Substack or other newsletter platforms

  • Background in independent or digital media

  • Familiarity with podcast or video show production workflows

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time, remote position with competitive salary and benefits

  • Collaborative, purpose-driven team environment

  • Opportunities for growth within an expanding editorial operation
