Description:
The Maui News is seeking a full-time multimedia journalist to join our newsroom and report on one of Hawaii’s most dynamic and consequential communities.
This position includes daily assignments covering community issues, government affairs, breaking news and the stories shaping life on Maui.
Maui may be world-famous for wind sports, oceanic wildlife and its vibrant island lifestyle, but the island is more than beautiful beaches and spectacular sunsets. The community offers no shortage of impactful news stories on topics such as the ongoing recovery from the 2023 Maui wildfires, a widening housing crisis and high cost of living, climate change and endangered species, as well as community issues and even local sports. The opportunities to dig into impactful coverage that matters are virtually endless.
We’re looking for someone with a strong work ethic, curiosity about the community and aloha. This is a great opportunity for an early-career journalist or someone looking to grow in the field while living and working in one of the most amazing places on Earth.
The ideal candidate is comfortable reporting on deadline, building sources and producing multimedia content, including writing, photography and video.
A degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. Applicants must be familiar with basic digital tools such as Outlook, Zoom and Google Docs to be considered for this position. A valid driver’s license and transportation are also required, as is an ability to work some weekend, holiday and night shifts.
This is a full-time position with benefits. To apply, submit a cover letter telling us why you’re the right person for the job with at least three writing samples (clips) to epace@mauinews.com. No phone calls please.
