Description:

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and well-connected Los Angeles Dodgers beat reporter to contribute comprehensive, timely and original coverage of the team throughout the MLB preseason, regular season and postseason. This contributor will focus on breaking news, daily coverage, features, native social video and multimedia storytelling, while building and maintaining strong relationships within the Dodgers organization.

While this role is primarily dedicated to covering the Los Angeles Dodgers, during the MLB offseason or in response to broader coverage needs, the contributor may be asked to report on other major Los Angeles sports teams and events within the Los Angeles DMA. This may include, but is not limited to, the LA Lakers, FIFA World Cup, LA Clippers, LAFC and LA Galaxy.

This is a contributor role with flexible scheduling, but it requires consistent availability for games, press conferences and major team events.

Responsibilities

Reporting & Coverage

  • Cover the Dodgers on a day-to-day basis, including game recaps, previews and news-driven stories
  • Break news related to players, transactions, injuries and organizational developments
  • Provide in-depth coverage during the postseason, including potential travel for away games
  • Attend games at Dodger Stadium and key press conferences, media availabilities and player introductions
  • Provide coverage of other Los Angeles-based professional sports teams or major sporting events within the LA DMA as assigned during the offseason or as coverage needs arise

Sourcing & Relationships

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with Dodgers players, coaching staff, front office personnel and clubhouse/field staff
  • Conduct interviews with players, coaches and team executives as needed
  • Cultivate sources to provide insight, context and exclusive information

Feature & Enterprise Reporting

  • Pitch and produce feature stories, profiles and longer-form pieces throughout the season
  • Identify compelling storylines beyond game results, including player development, clubhouse dynamics and organizational strategy

Multimedia & Social

  • Gather and produce short-form vertical video content (on-site and in-studio as needed) for social media platforms
  • Conduct on-camera interviews and quick-hit video segments when appropriate
  • Collaborate with NBCLA’s digital producers, sports staff and social lead to align coverage with platform needs

Requirements

  • Proven experience covering professional sports, preferably MLB or an MLB team
  • Strong reporting skills with the ability to break news accurately and responsibly
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to attend games and press events in person on a regular basis
  • Experience shooting short-form video on a mobile device for social platforms
  • Strong writing, interviewing and communication skills
  • Existing relationships within the Dodgers organization are a plus
  • Must be willing to be contracted through YOH for payroll processing
  • Must be willing to enter into a NBCU Freelance Contract
  • Billingual in English and Spanish are a plus
  • This is a required on-site role based in Los Angeles and may include travel. Business-related travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with NBCUniversal company policy.
