About the
Role
We are
seeking an experienced and well-connected Los Angeles Dodgers beat reporter to
contribute comprehensive, timely and original coverage of the team throughout
the MLB preseason, regular season and postseason. This contributor will focus
on breaking news, daily coverage, features, native social video and multimedia
storytelling, while building and maintaining strong relationships within the
Dodgers organization.
While this
role is primarily dedicated to covering the Los Angeles Dodgers, during the MLB
offseason or in response to broader coverage needs, the contributor may be
asked to report on other major Los Angeles sports teams and events within the
Los Angeles DMA. This may include, but is not limited to, the LA Lakers, FIFA
World Cup, LA Clippers, LAFC and LA Galaxy.
This is a
contributor role with flexible scheduling, but it requires consistent
availability for games, press conferences and major team events.
Responsibilities
Reporting
& Coverage
- Cover the Dodgers on a day-to-day
basis, including game recaps, previews and news-driven stories
- Break news related to players,
transactions, injuries and organizational developments
- Provide in-depth coverage during
the postseason, including potential travel for away games
- Attend games at Dodger Stadium
and key press conferences, media availabilities and player introductions
- Provide coverage of other Los
Angeles-based professional sports teams or major sporting events within
the LA DMA as assigned during the offseason or as coverage needs arise
Sourcing
& Relationships
- Develop and maintain professional
relationships with Dodgers players, coaching staff, front office personnel
and clubhouse/field staff
- Conduct interviews with players,
coaches and team executives as needed
- Cultivate sources to provide
insight, context and exclusive information
Feature
& Enterprise Reporting
- Pitch and produce feature
stories, profiles and longer-form pieces throughout the season
- Identify compelling storylines
beyond game results, including player development, clubhouse dynamics and
organizational strategy
Multimedia
& Social
- Gather and produce short-form
vertical video content (on-site and in-studio as needed) for social media
platforms
- Conduct on-camera interviews and
quick-hit video segments when appropriate
- Collaborate with NBCLA’s digital
producers, sports staff and social lead to align coverage with platform
needs
Requirements
- Proven experience covering
professional sports, preferably MLB or an MLB team
- Strong reporting skills with the
ability to break news accurately and responsibly
- Comfort working in a fast-paced,
deadline-driven environment
- Ability to attend games and press
events in person on a regular basis
- Experience shooting short-form
video on a mobile device for social platforms
- Strong writing, interviewing and
communication skills
- Existing relationships within the
Dodgers organization are a plus
- Must be willing to be contracted through YOH for payroll processing
- Must be willing to enter into a NBCU Freelance Contract
- Billingual in English and Spanish
are a plus
- This is a required on-site role
based in Los Angeles and may include travel. Business-related travel
expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with NBCUniversal company
policy.
