Description:
The Westerly Sun, a daily newspaper serving southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut, seeks a full-time general assignment reporter to join our newsroom. This position requires a strong writer – attentive to detail and committed to accuracy – who can deliver our readers compelling, hyperlocal-focused news of the area's politics, education, arts and more.
Successful candidates will have a firm grasp of traditional journalism techniques including the ability to cultivate sources, generate story ideas, use AP style and write on deadline. They should also be comfortable in assisting with our digital operation by working with our content management system, and have some experience taking photos. Page design experience or training is also a plus.
A bachelor's degree is required; applicants completing their studies this semester may be considered. Reliable transportation is a must. This position will require some night and weekend work.
To apply, e-mail a brief cover letter, résumé and up to 5 clips to Managing Editor Seth Bromley at sbromley@thewesterlysun.com.
