Description:

City/General Assignment Reporter-Corvallis, OR

The Corvallis Gazette-Times is looking for its next great journalist. Join our national- and regional-award-winning team to cover the city of Corvallis, a vibrant university town with more than 60% holding at least a bachelor’s degree (nearly twice that of the U.S. at large) and more than 20% a master’s or above. This is a place where debates about the great topics of our day with passion and knowledge are prevalent.

Our standards are high. This reader puts it aptly; we got this just the other day about a series we did:

“I found it informative and thought-provoking while also remaining moving. The legal and civic issues were handled clearly, but the human dimension never got lost. … I also appreciated the tone of the series. It trusted the material and the listener, and that gave it force. That balance of careful reporting and strong storytelling made it especially effective.”

This is true local journalism — the kind where your work actually matters and impacts the community.

What You’ll Do:

  • Report and write stories for both print and digital platforms
  • Take photos and videos to accompany stories
  • Post and optimize content for the web and social media
  • Build sources and generate story ideas independently
  • Help grow and engage our digital subscriber base

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong writing and reporting skills with knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) photography, videography and digital publishing
  • Curiosity, initiative and a genuine interest in community journalism
  • Comfort working across both print and digital platforms

Qualifications:

  • A journalism degree is preferred, but internships and relevant experience will be considered
  • Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance required

Additional Details:
This position may include some night and weekend hours. The ability to produce timely, accurate reporting in today’s fast-moving digital news environment is essential.

If you’re looking for a role where no two days are the same — and where your work actually reaches and matters to a community — we’d like to hear from you.
