Verite News, as part of our commitment to delivering quality, engaging journalism, is launching a new video team to expand our reach through dynamic, impactful video.
Verite News is seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced Managing Editor for Video to lead our video team. This role will oversee and manage a talented team of video producers while leading the development and execution of the newsroom’s video strategy. The Managing Editor for Video will guide the creation of original video content, from reporting and shooting to editing and publishing, with a focus on amplifying Verite News’ existing reporting, original video projects, and future video endeavors. This is a leadership position that requires a mix of editorial oversight, creative vision, and team management skills.This role may require on-camera appearances.
Responsibilities:
A typical day in this role will involve coordinating with Verite News’ video producers, the audience editor, newsroom editors and reporters to plan, write, shoot, edit, publish and schedule video content. You will be working closely with the editorial team to prioritize video projects that align with editorial goals and community needs.
Leadership & Team Management:
Lead and manage a team of two video producers, ensuring high-quality video production, meeting deadlines, and aligning with editorial goals. This includes planning shoots, creating shot lists, scripts, etc.
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to video producers, helping them develop their skills and careers.
Foster a collaborative and creative work environment within the video team and across the broader editorial staff.
Video Content Strategy & Execution:
Develop and execute a compelling video content strategy that aligns with Verite News’ mission, editorial direction, and audience interests.
Supervise the production of a variety of video content, including investigative reports, in-depth features, news analysis, and documentary-style pieces.
Collaborate with editorial, design, and social media teams to ensure video content is effectively integrated across digital platforms and maximized for audience engagement.
Editorial Oversight:
Ensure the accuracy, fairness, and high journalistic standards of all video content produced.
Edit video scripts, manage video production processes, and guide editorial decisions for video projects.
Review and approve all final video products before they are published or distributed.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with the editorial team to prioritize video projects that align with editorial goals and community needs.
Liaise with external partners, freelance videographers, and contractors as needed.
Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across New Orleans’ neighborhoods and other local communities to ensure video content is relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Metric Collection:
Assist in metric collection of Verite News’ video content in an organized, self sufficient manner that is easily accessible to all newsroom members.
Effectively communicate video performance to necessary stakeholders in weekly, monthly, and yearly reports.
Location: New Orleans, La
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a video editor, producer, or director, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a variety of video content.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in video production, preferably in journalism, news, or digital media.
Strong leadership and management skills with experience leading teams and working collaboratively in a newsroom environment.
Expertise in video production tools such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects; familiarity with live streaming platforms and video editing software.
Excellent storytelling skills with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and impact.
Strong understanding of digital media platforms, social media engagement, and audience development strategies.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
Passion for investigative journalism and a commitment to producing video content that makes a difference in New Orleans.
Knowledge of the city and region’s political, social, and cultural landscape is a plus.
