TITLE: Digital Producer and Editor
DEPARTMENT: News
REPORTS TO: Managing Editor
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $65,000 - $72,000
WORK LOCATION: On-Site (Sunday-Thursday 10 a.m.–7 p.m. with 1 hr break)
SUMMARY:
TPR is seeking a Digital Producer
and Editor who thrives at the intersection of meaningful journalism and audience-centered
digital storytelling.
Texas Public Radio (TPR) is a mission-driven, award-winning, multimedia
organization serving a wide expanse of the state.
In this role, you’ll help drive the daily news
cycle, delivering high-impact journalism that keeps our audience informed about
the issues that matter most in San Antonio and South Texas.
The position blends roughly 50% content
production with 50% digital editing and includes digital-first reporting on
breaking news as it happens, along with shaping and producing newsletters that
deepen audience engagement and extend our reporting beyond the homepage.
This position is within the
bargaining unit represented by the SAG-AFTRA Union.
Union membership is not
required as a condition of employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Edit and revise reporter stories
and scripts for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and AP style
·
Serve as copy editor for web
stories, ensuring consistency with TPR editorial standards
·
Produce digital stories that range
from fast-moving breaking news to in-depth guides and explainers
·
Shape radio and audio-first
reporting into clear, engaging digital stories for web and mobile audiences
·
Responsible
for production of the TPR Today newsletter and notifications as assigned
·
Perform
background research and fact-checking as needed to strengthen stories and
provide context
·
Assist
reporters with building, formatting, and publishing stories in the content
management system
·
Help
ensure stories are appropriately framed, headlined, and optimized for digital
platforms
·
Work with freelance reporters as
needed to meet coverage demands
·
Fulfill
administrative obligations related to assignments, including maintaining
communication with editors and submitting timely expense reports
·
Participate appropriately in
station fundraising, sponsorship activities, and live events
·
Perform other related duties as
assigned, including participating in cross-training opportunities to support
breaking news coverage
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree
in journalism, communications or related field, or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of four years
writing and/or editing news copy
SKILLS:
·
Demonstrated
ability to write and edit clear, accurate, compelling news stories consistent
with AP Style guidelines
·
Strong news judgment and
understanding of ethical journalism standards
·
Technologically versatile with
experience in content management systems tools
·
Experience using software to edit
photos and images and design visual presentations desired
·
Exceptional organizational and
time management skills, including the ability to work effectively under
pressure and meet deadlines
·
Demonstrated professionalism and
personal relationship skills, including the ability to work well with other
team members
·
Self-motivated, with a “willing
spirit” and the ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision
·
This position requires
availability outside of regular business hours during breaking news or urgent
coverage
·
Must have valid standard Class C
driver’s license and transportation
·
Spanish/English
bilingual language skills a plus

PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS:
● Using fingers to make small movements such as
typing or picking up small objects or hand tools.
● Verbally conveying
detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, and quickly.
● Able to hear average
or normal conversations in person or by phone.
● Frequently and
regularly use the wrists, hands, and fingers.
● Average, ordinary
visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or other materials. Must be able to differentiate color coding of
wiring and components.
● Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. May
have to lift folders, files, papers, audio/video equipment, and other items
weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
· Ability to travel to story destinations.
