Description:
Seeking Energetic, Inquisitive Reporter Who Knows How to
Own a Beat
Fast-growing trade publication (www.rtoinsider.com) covering the electric power industry
and climate policy seeks an energetic, inquisitive beat reporter to cover
regulatory and legislative policy news and write enterprise features.
The best reporters know how to go narrow and deep on a
subject, gaining enough expertise to translate complex issues into readable
prose. This position provides an excellent opportunity to hone your craft. In
some cases, you’d be the only reporter in the room. An added bonus: almost
everything you’d cover would occur during weekdays.
This company is fully remote, with 20 reporters, editors and
correspondents strategically located around the U.S., though the person filling
this position must be willing and able to travel 6-8 times a year, for a couple of days at a time, to Toronto and
Calgary.
You’d primarily cover policy and stakeholder meetings of the
Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) which works at the heart
of Ontario's power system, as well as the Alberta Electric System Operator
(AESO). Both organizations have provincial and federal oversight agencies that
also would be covered. Much of the coverage can be done remotely from the U.S.
Enterprise topics include industry trends, new technologies,
climate change policy, etc. In addition, you’d cover relevant industry
conferences, reports and webinars.
We seek candidates with at least five years of reporting
experience. Knowledge of economics, statistics and business concepts is
helpful; some knowledge of energy regulation would be ideal.
The salary is competitive; benefits provided by parent company Yes Energy are generous.
