Description:
The Courier-Post/courierpostonline.com, a member of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking to hire a news reporter dedicated to producing education and watchdog journalism. This role centers on identifying and developing in-depth stories that serve the public interest, with a primary focus on education and policy within the Southern New Jersey coverage area. The reporter will be responsible for monitoring trends both within education and across other assigned coverage areas. By doing so, they will generate enterprise and premium content that enhances reader engagement and deepens the audience’s understanding of important topics. This role will also create and produce multimedia content including videos and photo galleries.
Responsibilities:
- Use metrics and analytics to determine how to best reach and grow the audience.
- Increase digital audience engagement and grow digital subscriptions.
- Be courageous about experimentation.

- Apply innovative, creative thinking to support the company’s goals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of experience in journalism writing and reporting.
- Understanding of metrics, social media and SEO.
- Solid news judgment.
- Self-motivation and self-direction.
- Top-notch planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
- Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct.
- This role is virtual and requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
