Position
Overview
We are seeking a
detail-oriented Copy Editor + Content Producer to support evening editorial
production, to turn news releases about community events and other
announcements into articles, and to write articles of community interest as
directed by the managing editor.
This role is critical to maintaining:
● Editorial rigor
● Workflow efficiency
● Consistent formatting and standards
● Sustainable publication practices
The position supports reporters and the managing editor by ensuring stories are accurate, clearly written, grammatical, and ready for publication during the evening production window.
Schedule
20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Responsibilities
Copy
Editing
● Edit articles for grammar, clarity, and
modified AP style
● Improve sentence flow and readability
where needed
● Verify names, titles, dates, figures, and
vote counts
● Review headlines for clarity and factual
precision
● Flag inconsistencies or missing context
before publication
● Ensure tone and style align with newsroom
standards
● Format stories in WordPress
● Prepare articles for scheduling by the
managing editor.
Community
Content Production
● Draft event previews and community
announcements
● Assist with post-event follow-ups when
appropriate
● Produce community features aligned with
newsroom priorities
● Coordinate the collection of statements or photos when needed
Qualifications
Required:
● Professional copy editing experience
● Strong command of AP style
● Excellent writing and editing skills
● Exceptional attention to detail
● Ability to work independently within
structured editorial systems
● Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress
preferred)
● Ability to communicate clearly with
reporters and editors, including with digital tools (Zoho Cliq, email, etc.)

Preferred:
● Newsroom experience.
● Familiarity with municipal or civic
reporting.
● Experience in small or nonprofit newsroom
environments.
● Comfort working asynchronously.
Compensation
$25,000–$35,000 annually,
depending on experience.
