Description:
Join our team in Anchorage, where wide-ranging audiences and rich storytelling intersect
The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's most-read news source, is seeking an experienced online audience producer to help us continue growing and strengthening our online reach, serving a local and regional audience that holds us to a high standard. This role is based in Anchorage, with a schedule set at 32 hours per week.
We have a focus on and commitment to audiences — listening to them, growing them, retaining them. We’re big enough to have a robust readership and wide, deep reach, but small enough to make decisions quickly and for individuals to have an immediate and significant impact. We have smart, demanding readers who know what good journalism looks like and hold us to a high standard, and the online producer we hope to hire would be joining a team of talented, experienced journalists who care about Alaska, the place and its people.
The candidate hired for this role will:
• Help manage our online platforms, including our social media accounts and website, and pursue new opportunities for us to deepen engagement with local readers and identify story leads.
• Help produce email newsletters that reach tens of thousands of people.
• Help develop and execute projects rooted in community and audience listening. That includes everything from reporting call-outs to new engagement initiatives.
Essentially, we're looking for someone who is passionate about the reporting we do and dedicated to the critical job of connecting readers to our work, before and after a story is published. We're hoping to hire an online producer who has a mastery of voice and style and can break down complex topics using approaches tailored to different platforms with established, growing audiences.
Our ideal candidate:
• Understands online news and how to use analytics to generate actionable insights.
• Has a proven record of engaging online audiences at a consistently high level in a fast-paced environment.
• Has strong news judgment, exceptional writing skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Thrives working collaboratively across teams and platforms.
• Is enthusiastic about taking on new challenges and development opportunities that enable them to grow in their role.
• Is open to a flexible schedule.
• Has at least two to five years of experience working in online news, and with organizational social media accounts and email newsletters.
If you're interested in submitting an application but feel that you don't have the type of experience we've described here, or feel that you have important skills we haven't included, please don't hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
Email a resume, samples of your work and a note about why you want to work with us to Editor Vicky Ho at news-jobs@adn.com. This job posting is set to expire in mid-April 2026.
The Anchorage Daily News is independently owned and values an inclusive workforce reflecting a range of lived experiences, and we also value work-life balance and workplace flexibility. Our newsroom was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2020, 1989 and 1976.
We're located in a diverse, highly livable city of nearly 300,000 with Alaska and all its outdoor opportunities right out the door. We offer competitive pay and benefits, and we’ll relocate the right candidate.
This role, set at 32 hours per week, is eligible for company benefits such as employer-sponsored health care, PTO, 401k contributions, paid holidays and parental leave.
