Description:
Freelance Investigative Journalists — RPF
Organization: RPF (rpf.news) Location: Remote (HQ in Portsmouth, NH) Type: Freelance / Contract Compensation: Above market rates, commensurate with experience
About
RPF News publishes investigative reporting, profiles, and analysis with no ads and no paywalls. We're funded through prediction market trading — our journalism is the product of deep, original research, and when that research reveals information the market hasn't priced in, we trade on it and then publish the reporting for free.
This model means we never need to chase clicks, publish filler, or pander to advertisers. We take the time to get it right.
The Opportunity
We're looking for freelance investigative journalists who want to do rigorous, unhurried work on stories that matter. You'll have the freedom to go deep — conducting extensive interviews, filing records requests, and building out reporting that most deadline-driven newsrooms can't support.
We're currently focused on stories across:
- U.S. Politics — campaigns, policy, regulatory and legislative developments
- World — international affairs, geopolitics, foreign policy
- Tech & Science — emerging technology, AI, biotech, research integrity
- Companies — corporate accountability, markets, deals, executive conduct
- Culture — media, institutions, social trends
We're open to pitches across these areas and beyond. If you have a story that deserves more time and resources than it's getting, we want to hear about it.
What We're Looking For
- A track record of investigative reporting
- Ability to develop and pursue original stories independently
- Comfort with deep research — public records, data, source development
- Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to accuracy
- Willingness to work transparently within our disclosure framework (all articles include market position disclosures)
Prior beats or domain expertise in any of our coverage areas is a plus, not a requirement. We care more about instincts, rigor, and craft.
What We Offer
- Above-market freelance rates — we believe good journalism requires good pay
- Full remote flexibility — work from anywhere
- Time to do the work — no content quotas, no daily churn
- Editorial support without editorial interference
- A model aligned with quality — our success depends on being early and right, not on traffic
How to Apply
Send the following to talent@rpf.news:
- A brief note on who you are and what kinds of stories you're drawn to
- 2–3 clips that represent your best investigative or enterprise work
- Your availability and preferred rate range
We review applications on a rolling basis.
