Part time Freelance Local News Reporter to report on Northwest Corner CT in person and remote

Goshen News is a growing, monthly. non-profit, non-partisan, financially stable, 3 year old paper with distribution in 70+ sites and 20+ towns in the Northwest Corner of CT. Our mission is to utilize the highest skills, ethics and research to bring local town meetings, events, politics, and stories of local interest to our readers. We are looking to expand our staff to include professional journalistic coverage of the local events for that purpose. Our current staff includes experts in medicine, politics, law, economics, agriculture and other areas of interest. The Northwest Corner is full of historic sites, community and professional theaters, art galleries, skiing areas, lakes and more.  

Key Responsibilities:

     *   Attend and report on local meetings, events, and breaking news

     *   Conduct interviews and investigative reporting with local officials, residents, and business owners

     *   Write clear, compelling news stories on deadline

Qualifications:

     *    Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred

     *   Excellent writing, interviewing and research skills

     *   Strong knowledge of AP style and journalistic ethics

     *   Familiarity with the Northwestern CT region is a plus

     *   Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
