Reporter – East Greenwich News, a Local Nonprofit Online Newsroom
Position Type: Full-time
Location: Hybrid/Remote with local availability
Reports to: Editor / Executive Director
Status: Exempt
About the Organization
We are a mission-driven, nonprofit local news organization providing independent, fact-based reporting that strengthens civic engagement and serves the public good in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Our work is supported by readers, local donors, grants, and community partnerships.
Please be advised that this position requires the candidate to live in Rhode Island and reside within a 30-minute commute of East Greenwich.
What the job looks like:
Work closely with the editor
Attend and report on government meetings, with a focus on schools reporting
Write up the police log weekly
Report on issues including housing, infrastructure, and new businesses
Write feature articles on interesting people, places and events
Build trust and cultivate sources within the East Greenwich community — with residents, government officials, town employees, and business owners
Generate and pitch article ideas
Take photos to accompany articles
Shoot video content that helps to accompany and amplify reporting across social media
Occasional help with the newsletter
Share content and help monitor EG News’s social media platforms

A knowledge of social media and current ways of sharing information.
Willingness to pitch in to help with nonprofit-specific duties, including around fundraising
Home location in or around East Greenwich, with the ability to reliably attend local happenings in the town with reasonable accommodations.
