Summary:
The Southern California News Group is seeking a digital editor to help guide its features and entertainment coverage, which includes everything from Coachella to Disneyland to the region’s dynamic dining and music scenes. If you’re a strong editor, passionate about digital journalism, committed to innovation and adept at using newsletters to connect with readers, this could be the job for you.
Must reside in Southern California.
What you will do:
Collaborate with writers and other editors to develop new types of coverage and fresh approaches to existing coverage, with the goal of executing high-interest stories across all platforms
Oversee several newsletters that target stories on certain topics to interested readers
Foster a creative, dynamic environment among colleagues that encourages innovation
Help lead a team of reporters in such content areas as festivals and events, dining or theme parks
Use analytics to identify new topics for coverage and optimize the audience for stories
Report to the senior editor for features to collaborate on strategic planning and coverage ideas
Drive digital innovation by identifying and implementing new storytelling formats, emerging platforms, and multimedia integration to enhance reader engagement
Multitask, meet deadlines and accurately fact-check information
Display strong networking and interpersonal skills to build relationships both within the newsroom and the community
What you will bring:
Proven success using analytics to guide news coverage
Proficiency in curating and producing newsletters
Experience employing social media to find story ideas and sources and to promote coverage
Minimum of five years of professional journalism experience
Significant experience in a digital role in a news organization
Ability to edit and write copy in a clear fashion, free of errors and using AP style
At least two years of experience as a writer on an entertainment or features beat or as an editor supervising such a beat
Supervisory experience leading a team of writers or digital producers
Benefits and Compensation:
The salary is $70,304 + cell stipend. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
