Description:
WTWH Media is seeking a motivated, entrepreneurial Associate Editor to become the editorial and brand leader for Ambulatory Surgery Center News (ASCN). ASCN is the leading source of news and analysis for executives in the rapidly expanding U.S. ambulatory surgery center industry.
This $45.6 billion market is growing fast and projected to reach $55.3
billion by 2029. Launched in 2024, ASCN has quickly built a strong reputation
and a dedicated readership. We are seeking a journalist who not only produces
exceptional content but also understands how to build
communities around that content—someone who can turn reporting into
conversations, conversations into engagement, and engagement into a thriving,
influential professional network.
Build Community Through Journalism
This role goes beyond traditional editorial work. You will create enterprising, high-impact journalism and then use your voice, presence, and entrepreneurial instincts to bring readers together around that work. You will function as ASCN’s public leader. That means connecting with readers, sparking discussion, and cultivating a sense of community among executives and clinical decision-makers who rely on ASCN as their essential information source. Your journalism will fuel the community, and your community leadership will strengthen your journalism.
Create Compelling, Enterprising Journalism
Set ASCN’s editorial direction and produce high-quality reporting rooted
in curiosity, strong news judgment, and subject-matter fluency. You will
publish ~5 original stories per week, including scoops, enterprise reporting,
analysis, and breaking news coverage. To fuel these stories, you’ll need to
interview 3-5 sources per week.
Be the Editorial Voice & Public Face of ASCN
Represent the brand at industry events (the annual ASCA conference and
the ASC News Investment & Operations Conference, for example), on stage,
and across digital platforms, showing audiences why your reporting matters and
inviting them into deeper engagement.
Spark Discussion & Build Communities Around Your Reporting
- Engaging
readers on social and professional networks
- Seeding
thoughtful discussion among industry leaders
- Encouraging
debate and connection in comment threads, live chats, and events.
Engage Top Industry Leaders
Regularly interview CEOs, founders, investors, clinicians, policymakers,
and academics. Cultivate and maintain deep, trusted source relationships that
strengthen both your coverage and the broader ASCN community. Frequent
outreach, networking calls and interviews are keys to succeeding in this role.
Host, Moderate & Convene
Use your editorial authority to lead ASCN’s virtual and in-person
conversations. Moderate panels, host podcasts, and run live or virtual
convenings that bring stakeholders together to react to your reporting and
share new insights.
Drive Event Success
Help program high-value events that reflect your coverage priorities and
meet the information needs of the ASCN community. Ensure events become vibrant
touchpoints for readers to engage with you and one another.
Create High-Impact Custom Content
Collaborate on sponsored content, white papers, reports, and
thought-leadership series—maintaining editorial integrity while serving
audience needs.
Grow & Understand the Audience
Use audience performance data to shape editorial strategy and community
engagement approaches. Leverage analytics to deepen your connection to readers
and expand ASCN’s reach.
We welcome remote workers with a proven track record of success,
particularly those with relevant journalism experience in health care, the
ambulatory surgery center space or business reporting. Please submit 2-3
writing samples, along with your resume and cover letter.
Who You Are:
We’re looking for someone who blends newsroom instincts
with community-building vision: a journalist who thrives on connecting
people, spotting emerging conversations, and guiding industry dialogue. The
ASCN editor must thrive in a fast-paced work environment with quick turnaround
on stories, be self-motivated and entrepreneurial, and bring a sense of urgency
and excitement to a publication that is poised – with the right leadership – to
go from startup mode to the leading business publication and professional
community for a dynamic and fast-growing sector of health care.

or business experience preferred

self-starter who can manage a steady pipeline of editorial work, balance

- Fast,
clean writer with solid self-editing skills and a commitment to accuracy,
clarity, and high journalistic standards
- Proven
aptitude for public presence; you’re comfortable on stage, in interviews,
and on-camera
- Bachelor's
degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field preferred
- Strong
digital savviness, with the ability to interpret analytics and drive
data-informed decisions
- Ability
to quickly learn complex business trends, health care policy issues, and
regulatory topics
- Thrives
as a remote teammate—communicative, responsive, and consistently present
in shared digital workspaces like Slack and Google Chat
- Eagerness
to travel for coverage and events
- Management
experience (1+ years) preferred
