Description:
Senior Writer, The Preamble (Remote | US Eastern/Central hours)
If you’re a journalist looking for a place where accuracy, clarity, and urgency still matter — welcome.
The Preamble is a fast-growing, high-trust newsletter read by 340,000+ subscribers, including former presidential cabinet members, current lawmakers, and government officials. Our promise is simple: help people understand what’s happening — without rage bait, without false balance, and without allegiance to parties or politicians. We cover politics, current events, government, and law with rigor, context, and an engaging voice that respects the reader.
We’re hiring an experienced writer who can move quickly, report cleanly, and write with authority.
What you’ll do:
Write timely, high-impact pieces that translate complex news into clear, compelling prose
Research and report across politics, government, law, and major national/international developments
Work on tight daily deadlines with a high bar for verification, clarity, and fairness
Edit, revise, and collaborate closely with editors
Maintain a calm, evidence-driven tone that informs without inflaming
You’ll thrive here if you are:
A self-starter who can work independently, make smart calls, and hit deadlines consistently
Deeply fluent in politics/government/law (international awareness is a plus)
A superior researcher who knows how to find primary sources and reliable reporting
Meticulous about details — grammar, spelling, attribution, and structure
Conversational on the page without being casual with facts
Committed to nonpartisan, fair-minded work: interested in what’s true, not what’s viral
Comfortable iterating quickly and incorporating edits without ego
Requirements:
3–5+ years of professional experience at a news organization
Experience working under firm daily deadlines that can’t be missed
The role:
This is a role that requires a high level of self-sufficiency, adaptability, and speed — and rewards journalists who want their work to reach a large, influential readership without sacrificing standards.
Fully remote team
Work hours aligned with Eastern/Central time zones
Full-time benefits include health, dental, and vision, paid time off, and a 401(k) match
Salary range $70,000 - $80,000
