Description:
The Glasgow Courier is a profitable, independent weekly newspaper in northeastern Montana. We are seeking a Publisher–Editor with a strong editorial background who wants not only to run a small-market newspaper — but to own it.
This position includes equity participation and a clearly defined path to purchasing the paper outright.
THE NEWSPAPER
The Courier has served Glasgow and Valley County for generations and remains a primary source of local news. It covers local government, schools, courts, agriculture, business, and community life. The paper is stable, respected, and operating in the black.
This is not a turnaround. We are looking for a long-term steward to build on an already solid foundation.
THE ROLE
This is a true small-market Publisher–Editor position.
You will:
• Report, write, and edit local news
• Set editorial priorities and shape weekly coverage
• Edit copy and manage contributors
• Oversee advertising, circulation, and day-to-day operations
• Represent the newspaper in the community
This role requires sound editorial judgment, strong reporting skills, and comfort making independent decisions.
OWNERSHIP
This opportunity includes:
• An initial equity stake
• A transparent option to purchase the newspaper
• A clear transition plan for full ownership
Details will be shared with qualified candidates.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
This role is well suited for:
• Editors or publishers at community newspapers
• Editors ready to step into a publisher role
• Journalists with strong editorial experience who understand small-market realities
You should be comfortable working hands-on, managing a lean operation, and committing to the community you cover.
WHY GLASGOW
Glasgow offers an affordable cost of living, a strong sense of community, and access to outdoor recreation. The Courier remains a visible civic institution — giving the right person the opportunity to build both a career and a business.
