Summary:
The Orlando Sentinel is looking for a night assistant sports editor to be part of its award-winning Florida sports team. Duties will include working with Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun Sentinel reporters, editing stories, checking wires, updating websites, budgeting stories and coordinating coverage with other departments.
What you will do:
Edit, select and process appropriate content from national, international and local sources
Work with staff reporters and freelancer writers and edit their content
Meet print production deadlines and coordinate with production editors
Post stories online throughout the week and grow digital traffic
Promote content through social media and daily newsletters
What you will bring:
At least three years experience in journalism
Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
Understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print, and the urgency they require
Digital savviness with solid news judgment
Some experience in news, since this job includes some help for the news department when needed
