Description:
Nationally known community weekly that was “seized but not
silenced” seeks a hands-on news editor adept at writing both engaging features
and accountability journalism while learning
to help our editor / owner plan, coach, edit, and design.
We’ll consider anyone from a young journalist seeking a
renewable one-year fellowship to a veteran journalist wanting to work toward an
ownership interest in our independent, financially stable operation. Salary
commensurate with experience and potential.
This is real,
old-fashioned journalism, not a sausage-grinder breaking news desk, suburban
meeting beat, or video and social media marketing operation. We may seem to be
in the middle of nowhere, but there’s a spotlight on what we do, and you will
have a rare opportunity to learn, grow, and shine while earning a competitive
starting salary with full health insurance benefits.
We believe that hyperlocal journalism is the last, best hope
for democracy, and that journalists must be part of the communities they cover,
so applicants must be willing to relocate to our quaint, agrarian county with striking
stone buildings and two resort lakes on the edge of Kansas’ Flint Hills.
To apply, send your resume, cover letter, a minimum of three
samples of your work, and salary requirements to editor and publisher Eric
Meyer at job@mnks.us.
