Description:
Status Coup News, the leading independent news outlet that reports ON-THE-GROUND across America on the stories corporate media covers up, is looking for a passionate, driven, and digitally-savvy senior producer to help craft, polish, edit, improve, and manage our expanding volume of live and recorded content—and manage our growing team of reporters, producers, editors, video journalists, and freelance contributors—in order to help elevate Status Coup to the next level.
We’re looking for someone who's rightly pissed off with the state of the country, rampant corruption and injustice, and shares our core values of covering stories the mainstream media routinely ignores. So-called “neutral,” “both sides” traditionalists need not apply.
Working under reporter and CEO Jordan Chariton, senior producer would be tasked with:
1. Assigning, overseeing, and organizing video edits for our producers and editors—and then keeping an organized system to track edits
2. Going through our producers/editors video edits to identify if any re-edits are needed (and then communicating and explaining to producers the changes)
Re-edits could be for a variety of reasons including:
- The actual story/most compelling footage is buried too late into the video rather than being featured early on to better hook the viewer.
- Extraneous/unnecessary footage that harms flow of the video and should be cut
- Identifying the need for subtitles, spelling mistakes, need for additional visual elements
3. Crafting compelling headlines for our your YouTube videos/working with editors on video thumbnail ideas.
4. Producing on the ground livestreams including crafting headlines, working with editors on video thumbnail, and communicating with reporter about news developments before they go live (and breaking news while they're live).
5. Producing normal studio livestreams including crafting headlines, working with editors on video thumbnail, working with host on story selection/angles.
6. Writing Substack posts for us for YouTube videos we want to turn into a Substack post
7. Working with reporters to plot out potential on-the-ground reporting trips
8. Producing/editing your own videos as needed depending on how busy a news cycle gets
***Not required but if interested there would be on camera opportunities for yourself to shoot YouTube videos/report on-the-ground***
Required Skills:
- Excellent news judgment for **what is the story** and **what is the headline**
- Excellent judgment for compelling and powerful soundbites, quotes, and visual elements
- Excellent judgment for investigative news reporting and vetting credibility of stories, sources, and documents.
- Digitally savvy with keen understanding of what drives YouTube and other social media platform users to click on something (and stay watching)
- Ability to multi-task different assignments/edits simultaneously
- Good communication skills/ability to positively, constructively, and clearly communicate with reporters, producers, editors, cameraperson, etc.
- Excellent writing skills
Requirements:
- 3-4 years production experience preferred
- Working east coast hours
