This role blends strategy and hands-on execution — from campaign planning and messaging to analyzing performance and improving the member experience — with a goal of tripling our membership revenue by 2028.

  • Lead the strategy and day-to-day operations of the Banner’s membership program, including acquisition, retention and upgrade efforts

  • Design and manage membership campaigns across email, newsletters, on-site messaging and events

  • Partner with editorial and audience teams to integrate membership messaging into journalism and audience touchpoints

  • Develop and oversee member communications, including welcome journeys, renewal messaging, monthly member newsletter and impact updates

  • Establish clear membership metrics and reporting to track progress and inform strategy

You’ll thrive in this role if you

  • Believe local journalism is strongest when the community directly supports it

  • Are excited by ambitiously growing a membership program to maturity

  • Enjoy combining creative messaging with data-driven decision-making

  • Care deeply about member experience, relationship-building and customer service

  • Are highly organized and comfortable managing multiple projects at once

  • Enjoy collaborating across editorial, audience and revenue teams

  • Care deeply about strengthening local news and civic life in Middle Tennessee

Preferred qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in membership, loyalty programs, fundraising or related roles in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization

  • Experience working with CRM systems, email platforms and membership or donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Raiser’s Edge, DonorSearch, Stripe)

  • Demonstrated success running digital campaigns and improving conversion or retention metrics

  • Strong analytical skills and experience translating metrics into action

  • Excellent written, digital and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across editorial, product and revenue teams

  • Enthusiasm for the Nashville Banner’s mission and a full grasp of our community-first approach

Compensation and benefits

  • Salary: $75,000

  • Benefits: Medical, dental and vision insurance; unlimited paid time off; paid holidays; remote work flexibility
