The Nashville Banner is a nonprofit newsroom delivering community-informed journalism that engages and empowers people across Middle Tennessee. As the Banner embarks on a three-year initiative to double the size of our news organization, we’re seeking a Membership Manager to lead and grow our membership program — building meaningful, lasting relationships with the community that sustains our journalism.
This role sits at the heart of our revenue strategy. The Membership Manager will design and execute strategies to acquire, retain and engage members, helping ensure the Banner’s long-term financial health while deepening trust and connection with our audience.
Location: Nashville, TN (Remote within the Nashville area)

About the role
The Membership Manager is responsible for growing and stewarding the Nashville Banner’s membership program, turning readers into supporters and supporters into long-term partners in our mission. You’ll work closely with development and audience teammates to make membership a natural part of how people experience the Banner’s journalism, driving loyalty, recurring revenue and community connection.
This role blends strategy and hands-on execution — from campaign planning and messaging to analyzing performance and improving the member experience — with a goal of tripling our membership revenue by 2028.
What you’ll do
Lead the strategy and day-to-day operations of the Banner’s membership program, including acquisition, retention and upgrade efforts
Design and manage membership campaigns across email, newsletters, on-site messaging and events
Partner with editorial and audience teams to integrate membership messaging into journalism and audience touchpoints
Develop and oversee member communications, including welcome journeys, renewal messaging, monthly member newsletter and impact updates
Analyze membership data and trends to improve conversion, retention and lifetime value
Manage member feedback and engagement, identifying opportunities to strengthen relationships and trust
Establish clear membership metrics and reporting to track progress and inform strategy

Preferred qualifications
At least three years of experience in membership, loyalty programs, fundraising or related roles in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
Experience working with CRM systems, email platforms and membership or donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Raiser’s Edge, DonorSearch, Stripe)
Demonstrated success running digital campaigns and improving conversion or retention metrics
Strong analytical skills and experience translating metrics into action
Excellent written, digital and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across editorial, product and revenue teams
Enthusiasm for the Nashville Banner’s mission and a full grasp of our community-first approach
