The Maine Trust for Local News is seeking an enterprising and energetic journalist to join its Southern Maine community reporting staff. This reporter will cover general interest news in a geographic beat serving southern York County. 

Journalism produced from this coverage is published in weekly digital newsletters and ePapers, as well as daily in the Portland Press Herald, pressherald.com and other Maine Trust publications. 

Our community reporters are responsible for curating a weekly email newsletter, which is focused on interesting people, places and happenings in the region, and for posting daily stories.

This is a lively beat in part of Maine’s fastest growing region with lots of coverage potential on housing and development, education, the environment and key industries like the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The community reporter must have excellent reporting and writing skills; a sense of urgency to beat the competition on developing news; comfort with a digital-first environment; a proven ability to file stories on deadline; and experience rounding out stories with depth and context.
