Description:

AlterNet seeks an energetic and resourceful News Writer to help deliver speedy, high-volume coverage of breaking news across topics in national politics, criminal justice, elections, social justice and the economy for a night and weekend shift. The ideal candidate should possess a proven track record of news writing, with a genuine interest and familiarity with U.S. politics. In addition to editing and management responsibilities, the role also involves writing news stories.

 

Key Requirements:

 

  • Proven ability to unearth new stories and explore unique angles on events and issues that have yet to be covered by mainstream media
  • In-depth knowledge and interest in the fast-paced breaking news cycle
  • Demonstrated strong news judgment, with experience editing breaking news
  • Capability to handle a high volume of editing and writing
  • Familiarity with social media channels and effective story promotion

 

In addition to a competitive salary, the job includes health insurance with a minimal employee contribution and a 401k with a 3% match and 3% employer contribution.
