Description:
Editorial & Movement Operations Lead (Part-Time, Remote)
We are launching a new national editorial platform focused on flourishing neighborhoods—examining how place-based conditions shape spatial inequality and how communities rebuild social connection, trust, and shared capacity.
We’re seeking a part-time Editorial & Movement Operations Lead with strong journalism instincts to help research, shape, and publish clear, responsible writing—while also supporting the editorial operations of a small, growing platform.
This is not a traditional newsroom role, but it does require the core skills good journalists bring: independent research, synthesis, clear writing, editing judgment, and respect for evidence and voice.
This role is ideal for someone who:
-
Has experience in journalism, editing, or publishing (newsroom or non-newsroom)
-
Can research unfamiliar topics and write clearly for a general audience
Enjoys storytelling and behind-the-scenes work that makes ideas land
-
Is a strong editor who improves work without flattening voice
-
Is organized, dependable, and comfortable owning weekly deadlines
-
Is interested in how policy, place, and everyday community life intersect
You’ll work closely with the founder, who leads the editorial vision and primary writing. Your role is to help ensure clarity, consistency, and follow-through across publishing, partnerships, and distribution.
What you’ll do
-
Research, edit, and publish on Substack weekly
-
Contribute to research, synthesis, and occasional writing
-
Help manage an editorial calendar spanning practice, narrative, and systems-level insight
-
Coordinate partner contributions and podcast guests
-
Support the promotion and distribution of the work
-
Assist with light-touch community and membership operations
About our hiring process
We use a skills-first, low-bias hiring process inspired by organizations like Strong Towns. Early stages focus on short, work-relevant tasks (research, editing, and writing) reviewed anonymously. Resumes are reviewed later in the process.
We are especially interested in candidates from non-traditional backgrounds who are confident in their ability to do the work, regardless of where they’ve worked before.
This role is remote, part-time, and well suited to someone seeking flexible work—including caregivers or parents working from home.
How to apply
