KNBN Newscenter1, the NBC station in Rapid City, SD, provides quality broadcasting to all of western South Dakota, and portions of northeastern Wyoming and southeastern Montana. Job Summary

This role is responsible for developing original story ideas, writing stories, conducting interviews, shooting video, and editing stories for newscasts. They will do live reporting, and serve as a fill-in anchor on broadcast news programs. This position will also curate content for division websites and/or social media, including news releases, and regional and national content.


Essential Functions

MMJ Duties:

  • Generate original story ideas, as well as write stories and conduct interviews on assigned topics.
  • Shoot and edit video, and edit stories for newscasts.
  • Live reporting, covering both scheduled and breaking news stories as they happen.
  • Act as a fill-in anchor for both news and sports.

Content Production Duties:

  • Write copy, and edit video and sound for assigned stories for all distribution channels, including broadcast, web, and social media.
  • Oversee content posted to website and social media.
  • Manage streaming events.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 2-4 years newsroom experience preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in multi-platform journalism.
  • Strong editorial judgement.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills, and exceptional written, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar non-linear editing system), and newsroom computer systems strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company. 
  • Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company. 

Expected compensation for this role is between $21.65 and $24.04/hour, based on qualifications and experience.
