The Richmonder elevates the community conversation in Richmond, Virginia through stories that inform and inspire. Founded in September 2024, we deliver independent, high-quality news.

The positions:

We are seeking two summer interns to join our newsroom of four reporters. 

Reporting intern: 

The ideal candidate will have experience writing AP style news stories on deadline, as well as the ability to dig deep on longform and enterprise pieces that reflect community concerns.

Photo intern:

The ideal candidate will have experience in news photography and familiarity with AP style and standards. You will work on a variety of assignments including breaking news, local government, feature portraits and community events.

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in college or have graduated in the past 12 months
  • Must have previous journalism experience and work samples (student media is accepted)
  • This internship is in-person at our downtown Richmond office; daily office attendance is mandatory

Work schedule and benefits:

Each work week will consist of 40 hours of work. Some night and weekend work may be required.

Exact start and end dates will be negotiated upon selection. The internship will last no more than 10 weeks, during the months of May-August.

This is a paid internship. Applicants will be responsible for securing their own housing, and will not receive health or retirement benefits.
