Business Reporter-Lincoln, NE
The Lincoln Journal Star is looking for a versatile business reporter who can cover breaking news stories, spot trends and report deeper enterprise stories. We want a reporter who can write stories with accuracy, clarity and depth. The beat includes restaurants and retail, manufacturing, health care, real estate and housing. Lincoln is home to nationally known companies such as Nelnet, Hudl, Ameritas, Crete Carrier, NRC Health and Duncan Aviation. We emphasize local news and a strong, digital-first culture.
Key responsibilities
- Report and write timely, engaging stories on business and economic topics.
- Build strong sources among business leaders, workers, local officials.
- Monitor public records and data to spot news and develop enterprise reporting.
- Provide context to help readers understand broader economic trends.
- Produce stories for digital and print platforms; contribute photos or video as needed.
- Collaborate with editors and other reporters on coverage.
Qualifications
- Reporting and writing experience, preferably with business or government coverage.
- Strong news judgment, curiosity, and the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
- Comfort with public documents, data, and basic analysis.
- Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple assignments.
- Familiarity with AP Style and digital publishing tools.
