Description:
TribLive’s
fast-growing Pittsburgh newsroom is looking for a dynamic, highly organized
News Editor who thrives on breaking news, understands how stories live
across platforms, and knows how to lead reporters in a fast-paced environment.
This role is
perfect for an experienced editor who can think quickly, edit decisively, and
keep multiple plates spinning at once, while maintaining the highest standards
of accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism.
What you’ll do
As a News
Editor, you’ll play a central role in daily and breaking news coverage for the
city of Pittsburgh:
- Serve as an editor during
assigned shifts, monitoring breaking news, updating the website,
supervising reporters, and coordinating with photo and multimedia teams to
ensure timely, compelling coverage.
- Monitor news wires, social
media, and competing outlets throughout to ensure our coverage is current,
comprehensive, and competitive.
- Handle breaking news with
urgency and precision — writing, rewriting, or aggregating stories
quickly while maintaining accuracy and context.
- Manage and communicate with
reporters to coordinate coverage, adjust assignments as news evolves, and
ensure deadlines are met.
- Collaborate closely with
photographers, the copy desk, and multimedia teams to make sure stories
are visually strong and optimized for digital, print, and video platforms.
- Post and package stories for
digital platforms, ensuring proper formatting, tagging, SEO best
practices, and social-media readiness.
- Uphold editorial standards for
accuracy, fairness, tone, and ethical journalism across all content.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience editing news
in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Strong news judgment and the
ability to make smart decisions under deadline pressure.
- Comfort working across
platforms—digital, print, video, and social.
- Experience managing reporters
and coordinating coverage.
- A solid understanding of
breaking news workflows and aggregation.
- Familiarity with SEO, digital
publishing tools, and audience-focused storytelling.
- Knowledge of Pittsburgh and its
communities is a strong plus.
Why join us
- Be part of a growing newsroom
covering one of America’s most dynamic cities.
- Play a key role in shaping daily
and breaking news coverage.
- Work alongside talented
journalists, photographers, and multimedia producers.
If you’re a newsroom leader who loves the adrenaline of
breaking news, understands how journalism works across platforms, and can keep
a team moving under pressure, we’d love to hear from you.
