Summary:
The Southern California News Group is seeking an experienced editor to help lead our Inland Empire news team. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable editing daily copy in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment and who can help plan and direct longer form enterprise coverage. Making smart decisions on tight deadlines, having the ability to multitask, and being a true team player are all key for this role focused on local governments in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The right candidate should be able to recognize a strong local news story and how to go after it and coach reporters of all levels to develop and grow their skills.
What you will do:
Supervise a team of reporters in the Inland Empire and coordinate and edit news coverage from Riverside and San Bernardino counties for the Southern California News Group
Organize and edit news stories to produce consistent and well-written coverage
This editor must be flexible to work weekends and holidays as well as off hours when news requires
Work closely with other editors in SCNG on broader and regional content
Produce urgent and compelling hyper-local and regional content
Direct reporters through breaking news situations and post accurate stories online quickly
Express a genuine enthusiasm for community news and accountability journalism
What you will bring:
Five years editing experience at a newspaper or media outlet
Solid command of language, AP style and legal standards of journalism
Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
Understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Existing contacts/relationships within the defined market is helpful but not necessary
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field
Benefits and Compensation:
The salary is $70,000 + phone stipend.
