Description:
The University of Denver seeks a founding Executive Director to lead the Miller National Academy for Free Expression and Pluralism, a new, nationally-focused initiative dedicated to strengthening civil discourse, pluralism, and free expression in American public life. At a time of deep polarization, the Academy will connect scholarship to action by convening leaders across sectors and modeling principled, constructive disagreement.
Reporting dually to the Chancellor and Provost, the Executive Director will build and lead the Academy as a visible, influential, and financially sustainable institution. Responsibilities include setting strategic direction, leading fundraising toward a $75–100M endowment goal, overseeing programs and operations, engaging national partners and donors, and serving as the Academy’s primary public representative. The role will oversee and work closely with a distinguished Academic Director, from the University’s faculty, who will provide academic leadership and guide scholarly engagement.
The ideal candidate brings senior leadership experience, an entrepreneurial mindset, a deep commitment to free expression and pluralism, and a strong record of fundraising, partnership-building, and public engagement. This role offers the opportunity to build a new national institution from the ground up—one anchored at a leading university and designed to operate well beyond campus.
Compensation: $225,000–$375,000, commensurate with experience
