The News Service of Florida is seeking a Senior Reporter who can lead our coverage of the Florida State Capitol. This role is for an experienced writer who can cover high-profile committee meetings, floor sessions and the state budget, providing the nuanced analysis our professional subscribers depend on.

Responsibilities
Cultivate and maintain a deep network of sources including lawmakers, staff, lobbyists, and agency heads
Produce multiple clean, accurate stories daily during the legislative session, ranging from quick "breaking news" alerts to deep-dive policy analysis
Act as a lead writer in the newsroom, setting the standard for reporting depth and helping to guide newer staff members
Contribute to the daily news wire, weekly summaries and specialized email alerts for subscribers
Qualifications
6+ years of political or policy reporting, ideally covering a statehouse or the federal government
Ability to take complex legislative language or budget spreadsheets and translate them into clear, actionable news
Ability to thrive in the high-pressure environment of a legislative session where news breaks 24/7
