Description:

The Skagit Valley Herald in Mount Vernon, Washington, has an opening for a copy editor. The person selected for this position is expected to edit local news, sports stories and wire copy; write headlines and cutlines; select appropriate wire copy; determine story placement; proof pages; design pages using InDesign; and edit photos. The ideal candidate would have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, at least five years of experience in journalism, and proficiency with spelling, grammar and Associated Press style. They must be able to work collaboratively in a busy, deadline-driven environment. The person selected for the position will work 37.5 hours a week Monday through Friday. Regular work shifts are noon to 8 p.m., which includes a 30-minute meal break. The person may work weekends or holidays as necessary. They will work closely with the managing editor and assistant editor.
