Description:
The Times-Picayune | The Advocate is seeking a sharp and
savvy digital audience editor to join our team at the largest (and growing!)
news organization in Louisiana. We’re looking for an experienced journalist who
understands how to grow digital audiences and keep them engaged. This position
must be based in our New Orleans newsroom.
There is no shortage of interesting, important, and downright fun stories in
south Louisiana, and we’re looking for a journalist who is passionate about
getting those stories in front of more people.
In this position, you’ll work on our digital audience team to help manage
content on nola.com, theadvocate.com, theacadianaadvocate.com, and
shreveportbossieradvocate.com, and our related digital products. This
journalist will also play a key role in promoting our New Orleans dining
coverage through our Where NOLA Eats brand.
You should be a self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative newsroom
environment and always seeks new ways to engage readers while upholding our standards
of fairness and accuracy. You should not be afraid of experimenting when backed
with strategic thought because you know that the resulting data will help us
iterate no matter what. You should see changing social media algorithms and
evolving readership trends as a challenge to tackle.
Should we have an opportunity to connect about this opportunity, please come
curious with questions and maybe even some ideas.
In this role, you will:
·
Optimize our journalism for digital performance
from headlines to SEO.
·
Promote our journalism across social platforms,
push alerts, email newsletters, homepages, and apps.
·
Make decisions about which stories and photo
galleries to prioritize on which platforms and edit snappy headlines, share
text and other copy that will draw in readers.
·
Occasionally create original, timely digital
content – from writing a quick trending story to creating a short vertical
video.
·
Monitor social media and other news outlets for
breaking and trending news and advise the newsroom on stories we’re missing.
·
Analyze our stories’ digital performance – from
pageviews and users, to time spent and digital conversions – to help make
decisions about promotion strategies.
·
Advise reporters and editors in the newsroom on
how our coverage is performing online and make suggestions for improvement.
·
Help plan for digital coverage of major news
events, coordinating with editors and reporters on breaking / developing
stories, live coverage, video plans and more.
·
Develop promotional strategy for all Where NOLA
Eats coverage, from videos to articles to polls.
At The Times-Picayune | The Advocate, we are passionate about producing
interesting and engaging journalism, and we have been aggressive about growing
the organization to reach more subscribers.
The company is an equal opportunity employer, committed to recruiting,
developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique
opportunities and career paths for our employees. We encourage applicants of
all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.
This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes
medical, vision and dental insurance, short term disability, long term
disability and a 401K plan.
