For the newsroom leader interested in leading an award-winning editorial staff in the vibrant world-class community of Vail Colorado. The Vail Daily enters its 45th year of publishing. While continuing to deliver a vibrant, community-focused print newspaper 7 days a week, we also nurture a portfolio of engaging digital products and magazines, contributing to our growth-oriented mindset. 

We are seeking an individual who can bring fresh, creative, energetic ideas while embracing the challenging endeavor of producing the daily miracle. The ideal candidate will bring an experienced journalism background with a strong record of success grounded in a servant leadership approach to developing the strengths of others. This position requires establishing and delivering our content strategy, coaching reporters and editors, ensuring the accuracy of our coverage, overseeing our commentary page and columnists, and providing a clear editorial voice through personally writing occasional stories and columns. 

The Editor position also plays a vital role on the Vail Daily leadership team, crafting strategy and initiatives to server our readers and customers, and grow our enterprise. We strive to serve our community by bringing it together.

Responsibilities: 

• Manage a staff of full-time journalists and coordinate with freelancers.
• Guide news coverage, helping reporters hone their beats and pursue journalism that will make a difference in the community.
• Edit articles for content, grammar, clarity, tone, and accuracy.
• Oversee production of print edition including story placement, choosing local and regional content, and setting up the copy desk to make deadlines each night.
• Oversee website with aim of maximizing online audience.
• Have knowledge of digital analytics to help drive decision-making for stories and know how to work with reporters on future story development.
• Serve as the public face of the paper in interactions with residents, from readers to elected officials.

Must relocate to the Vail Valley.

Salary: $110 - $120K, 5 years+ of experience required. Benefits include up to a $500 annual recreation reimbursement, vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, 401K match and more.
