Description:

Our ideal reporter:

• A curious person of any age excited about delving into one of the Pacific Northwest’s most lively, scenic, historic and creative places.

• A polished writer/storyteller who loves getting to know people and mastering subjects, able to have fun with reporting on rural life while still tough enough to pursue complex stories in Umatilla and Morrow counties.

• A collaborative team member able to rise with and give a boost to our other newsrooms covering Baker, Grant, Union and Wallowa counties — a swath of Oregon full of engaging stories, controversies and centuries of history.

• An innovator in ways to report news and feature stories. We want someone devoted to newspaper reporting who is comfortable with digital and social media, able to take news photos and build relationships with folks in person and online.

The EO’s office is in Pendleton, home of the famous Pendleton Round-Up, a large outdoor rodeo that draws tens of thousands of visitors to town each year. But this position also covers communities throughout Umatilla and Morrow counties, which have no shortage of topics and events to report on, from changes that come with massive data centers to engaging features on local families to events for everyone in the community.

This is your chance to join the adventure at the East Oregonian, which has been reporting on our communities for 150 years. Whether you’ve been in the news business for decades or recently graduated, we’ll love hearing what you can bring to our newspaper. Already live in our area? So much the better.
